Ruzafa, the new trendy neighbourhood of Valencia

Russafa (or Ruzafa) lies beyond the Gran Vía Germanías and beyond the Northern train station of Valencia, and reaches as far as the Avenida del Reino de Valencia. It is part of the area of Eixample.  The area developed it’s style of charm and quality details in the twenties and thirties of previous century. Russafa has become popular and lively over the last years. It lives around its market and cultivates its own personality.

Russafa is particularly famous for being a meeting place for the most modern bohemian people. Many of the old houses have been rebuilt and refurbished, and have now been converted to trendy bars or restaurants. Many of this music pubs have the attraction of including live music performances (rock, jazz, blues…). Ruzafa has overtaken the El Carmen area as the coolest and hippiest area of Valencia. It is a working-class, ethnically diverse area that is being colonised by especially young creatives. It is full of vintage clothes shops, bike shops, homeware stores which sells work by contemporary Valencian artist, art gallery/wine shop. Restaurants range from traditional tapas and bocadillos to oysters, South American restaurants, and fusion.
